Coffee and Coffee Beans!
Coffee: The perfect aroma of your day! Have a cup, or two.
Coffee is by far one of the most loved beverages worldwide. For the past 1200 years coffee has been the drink that has been the preferred choice for many, with its attractive aroma and appealing flavour. Did you know that coffee beans are actually seeds? The seeds grow into coffee trees. The coffee tree is a small evergreen tree, its leaves are smooth and ovate, and produces clusters of white fragrant flowers. These flowers then mature into deep red fruits. The fruits usually contain the coffee seeds, or beans as we call them. After the coffee beans are dried, roasted and ground to perfection, they then make their way to us.
There are four primary types of coffee beans: Arabica (Coffee Arabica), Robusta (Coffee Caniphora), Excelsa, and Liberica (Coffee Liberica).
Coffee Arabica:
Most common in North America
Sweet, delicate, and less acidic in flavour.
Robusta:
Most popular in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
Strong flavour.
High levels of caffeine
The best but scarce Robusta coffee beans will have some hints of chocolate and rum flavour.
Liberica:
Rare to find as they require very specific climates.
Fruity/ flowery aroma
Woody flavour
Excelsa:
Grown mainly in Southeast Asia.
Tarty, fruitier flavour.
Frequently sought after by coffee enthusiasts.
