FIND BALANCE IN LIFE
Written by Lazane de Lange | Escape Yoga Studio
The very word “yoga” means to “yoke”, to unite the body-mind in harmony. Yoga is getting recognised all over the world and is even being incorporated in primary and high schools as an extramural activity. The UK (and many other countries, including South Africa) have started teaching mindfulness to children because it has so many benefits. This includes stress relief, muscle tone and building strength, helping with depression and anxiety, weight loss, concentration, mindfulness, just to name a few.
Yoga is not a religion. It is true that the traditional home of yoga is India, but yoga does not connect with any religion. By doing the poses and breathing techniques, you get to know your mind, body, emotions and actions better. Yoga is universal and a yogi does not need to be bound by any religious faith to practice yoga. Yoga is a positive and comprehensive approach to holistic health through the integration of body, mind and spirit; as such, it is a valuable instrument to promote one’s spiritual well-being and overall physical and mental health.
